First , report the robbery to the Police and obtain a report.

I would make an complaint to City Lodge's headquarters.
Try to give names of people you spoke to in Cape Town:

The Lodge, 38 Wierda Road West, Wierda Valley Sandton
PO BOX 782630 Sandton 2146, South Africa

Telephone: (011) 8845327
Fax: (011) 8841228

The hotel cannot really do anything about this situation. You need to go to the police and report this.

The Lodge should of helped you to call the police and help you make a statment with the police. If they did none of this then phone their head office and make a complaint.

You should already know what to do in this case and i feel that you have put this question up here to bring more negativity to this country. Almost everybody knows what to do when a robbery takes place. I dont think you were robbed at all because if you were the Waterfront City Lodge would of definately done something about this. All Lodges, Hotels etc do state that all your valuables should be kept in the safe. I think you should provide more information about your robbery that you experienced so that us Answerers can provide you with more information.

Ja my friend, that is South Africa for you. Crime is such an everyday common thing. It's actually regarded as a petty thing if you go to the police and tell them you have been robbed. They claim they have better things to do then petty things like robberies. (Even if you are foreign)
You must be sooo careful when you walk the streets of South Africa, you must be so alert of who is infront you or behind you or if your taxi driver will take you from point A to point B without stopping the car, taking all your stuff, leave you right there and drive off.
We're use to it.

The crime should be reported to the police by yourself. The hotel should have been helpful in assisting you to report the crime to the police. I would complain to the hotel's head office about this lack of service on that front. But it is not the hotel's responsibility to report the crime to the police - where in the world is it? Once you have a police report and case number, you should submit a claim to your insurance company. Good luck.
