ok now first of all you have to pick the right time to stretch. theres no point stretching on a icy day and when your muscles are cold. the best time is after youv had a shower. im a professional dancer/ballerina at the sydney dance academy and i can do the splits so i no all the stretches that work coz i have to do the splitz regularly . but after uv had a shower and your muscles are warm find a bare bit of wall and lie down with your legs vertically flat against the wall and then spread them out in a v and push as far out as u can and hold it for about three min eventually ull be able to hold it for longer and go down longer.. keep going and good luk!!
ps; although this seems lyk a side splitz stretch only it really does help with both

heres a routine i go thro that helps-
first hold ur right and then left leg split 4 at least a minute straight
then try putting ur front leg on somethings thats elevated (like a chair) then go in2 ur splits (so if u could go all the way down u'd b in an oversplit, this split will b worse than ur normal split cause ur goal is 2 go beyond a split)
after u hold that for at least a minute try ur normal split again (u should go further down)
try not 2 over stretch cause u can hurt ur self (i've done that b4) but make sure u hold ur splits at least a minute and then try 2 hold it longer and longer each time u do it
GOOD LUCK!

this is what i do to work on my flexiblity:
-lay down on the ground and put you legs straight up on the wall, and butt touching the wall
-open your legs in 2nd position as far as they will go
- hold it for about 30 minutes [if you can.. its hard] eventually your muscles will give up and go down farther
sorry if i suck at giving instructions, i hope you understand them.
at the begining of the summer i was about a foot away from being able to do my splits all the way down, but after doing this everyday i could do my splits before the middle of summer!!

go into a lunge with ur back leg on the ground. then push into the front leg and hold for 45 sec. then go further down. it might take a couple of days but if you work hard enough then you will get them. i have been dancing for 7 years straight with 6 different dancing genres i should know. good luck! :)

just get as far into the splits as you can and hold it for 20 seconds. if it hurts than do it a little less far. do it for 3 weeks and you'll have it!

Sit and reach for your toes with one leg tucked in. And just practice your splits every night.

well i am a dancer and i suggest sitting in second postion with your legs spread out like in a "v" and just strecth to your right leg then to your left leg then to the middle but be sure to reach with your belly button and not your head. it will take a couple weeks but don't worry they will come!!

practice makes perfect. If all else fails, try lunges, holding up you knees up to your chest in small time spans, and alternate legs. you can also use a ballet bar , holding up your leg and reach for your toes, if you don't have availabitity to one improvise.
