Usually the father, doula or midwife can be present in the delivery room. Many times if, the birth is natural the father will help coach the the mother during delivery. After the baby the placenta comes out, unless the mother has to have a c-section. Then the baby & placenta will be removed together. In both types of delivery the baby gets a bath & then the mom nurses the baby. When the baby nurses it helps contract the uterus. The nurses come and check on you to make sure you're healing properly.

Right after a woman has a baby labor continues until the placenta is delivered. If the birth is uncomplicated the mother is able to hold the baby and spend time with it nursing or feeding. The husband or family and friends are usually allowed to be present with the mothers permission.

My husband was there with all my deliveries. Depending on the hospital, you will stay in the same room that you delivered in. Your husband will be there with you. The nurses will keep checking your bleeding, massaging your stomach so that your uterus will continue to contract. They put blankets on you, and you rest. You'll be tired after all that hard work. They might offer a reclining chair for your husband to sleep in. You should be able to have a tour of the hospital that you will deliver and can ask these questions. Good Luck.

What do 'they' do TO her? Sorry, but I find this really funny. What was done TO her was done nine months before the birth.
Anyway, after delivery, in the hospital, the nurse washes the mom's perineum, transfers her to a room and she is allowed to rest. During all that, the baby is being weighed, and washed etc.
And yes, Dads are now usually welcome in the delivery room, even if the baby is to be delivered surgically, dads can come in.

When I had our daughter they took her and my husband to the nursery. I really think if I had wanted him to stay with me he wouldn't have...he was to excited about her. In the nursery they clean her up, get her prints, and some other stuff. Then he brought her back to the room after about 15min to me. As far as what happened to me...right afterwards they cleaned me up and made me comfy...I ate some food and waited for a regular OB room.
