Everything was working fine for years. I was able to logon to the internet via broadband connections. Now I am unable to reach a site unless I logon on to my company's VPN first. This really creates a problem for me when I travel due to the fact that I must accept the hotels ISP agreements first before I can log on to the VPN. Everything was working fine for years. I have tried different browers, Explorer and FireFox.

I do not have any proxy settings checked under the connections tab in my browser. One strange thing, is when I launch my browser when I am not on the VPN it attempts to open realguide.com and I do not have this address set as my home page. Please help!

When you say unable to reach a site, i'm assuming you mean that you cannot reach any web pages but when you enable the company VPN you can now do so. This sounds like your PC is setup to run web browsing traffic through your companies proxy server. Unless the VPN is up you cannot reach the proxy server so you cannot browse. To check this open your Internet Explorer browser. Click Tools and then Internet Options. Click the Connections Tab then click the LAN Settings button. If "Use A Proxy Server" is checked simply uncheck it and then try browsing without your corporate VPN.

My bet is that your browser is set for your company's proxy server. They probably set up a group policy that enables it every time you connect to the VPN concentrator.

Go into Tools...Internet Options, Connections tab and click the LAN Settings box. Uncheck everything and click OK all the way out. Restart your browser.

If you are using a work computer, then chances are the system admin folks have recently installed something on your system to prevent you from using internet on your work computer without vpn.

I would contact the company tech support and get them to fix it for you.
