Ok, so I'm an r&b singer trying to go big with a band that does pop, rock, rap, and r&b. I live in Fort Polk, Louisiana, and we are all trying to get in the business together. We got some underground songs that I send to other people and stuff, but right now all I want to know is how can we get discovered? And if I'm the only one getting discovered, is it right to leave the others behind? We have been trying to get big for like 3 years.

I cannot believe how selfish and callous youngsters are these days.
Getting discovered takes a combination of a lot of work and a lot of luck.
One thing you do want to do is travel if you can.
If you're interest is making a whole bunch of money and being a big star then I'd suggest you buy a lottery ticket. You have just as much chance of winning the big jackpot as you do of being the next "Michael Jackson".
Making a living as a musician is more about cultivating connections and working on your craft.
It's easy to brush aside what I'm telling you because you're young and full of ambition, but if you want to make it as a musician you have to think of the long term.
Look at it like this;
How many musicians would you say there are in the world?
Not just famous musicians but cats who make a living playing music?
A couple million? Easy!
Now how many of them are famous? A few hundred? Maybe!
But the bulk of that couple million make a living doing what they do. Not because, they want a bunch of money but because they love what they're doing.
Okay, enough preaching!
Somebody above already said it, but I'll reiterate.
Use the available technology. The Internet, computer recording, and cultivate connections. Don't ever leave your current band hanging. Always give them a notice. And be up front about what you're doing. Never try to hide what your intentions are. You don't have to volunteer information but you don't want to put anyone with whom you're collaborating on the spot.
Put a demo together and post it online and email me when it's posted, I'll give it a listen!

Good Luck!

Do you perform anywhere. You first need to develop a following. Once that is strong, get in the studio and make a disc for you fans. Try to get into battle of the band type of stuff. Even do stuff for charties. It is a mean market out there for musicians so you need to make youselves stand out from the rest with uniqueness. Sometimes if you are the star of the show, you must leave the others behind or else they will hold you back. Good luck.

1) Leave Fort Polk, Louisiana.
2) Yes. 3 Years is enough time to hang out with them.

In the music business, you've got to take care of yourself. You must have ambition to succeed. Always remember your band, but if you're serious about a career, don't throw it away for the band.

If you're good, try American Idol. Besides that, just hit as many big public events as possible. Being discovered is all about getting your name out. And exposure is the only way to do that!

if you stand there and just say discover me it wil not happen. Go to the internet and look for the adresses of the record labels on their site. Send in your demo. You cannot follow your dreams you have to chase them. If you were the only one discovered i would introduce your friends to the record execs if they say no , you can at least say you tried ( alot of famous ppl have left SOMEONE behind). And one more peice of advice pick a back up plan , you need one I know this guy who is like 40 and he is STILL trying to get big have faith but your chances are only like one in a billion because there are millions who want to be famous.

Use the internet to get noticed... record some stuff and hand it out like candy at local establishments that handle live music... get a myspace music account and put some material on there... get a youtube.com account and put some material on there.... do some gigs for free.... make some business cards up with your myspace and youtube address on it and wait to get hired to do some shows... if you are passionate enough about your music you will get gigs,,,, gain a following,,,,, and be on the way to getting discovered..... good luck.

hell no dude, the business is all about getting to the top, no matter how you do it. But you have to ask yourself, what's more important makin' it big, or your friends.

Find some gigs some place and hopefully a talent agent is there or something

To get disovered you have to get out there, where you can have a better opportunity to get discovered. To answer your question is it worth leaving love ones behind? It all about how much you want it.
