Monday is my first tennis match ever (its highschool tennis). Practice just started last monday so we have only been playing for a week. I have to play too because we only have 7 girls. I'm not good but im not horrible its just im having a lot of trouble with serving. My coach said to have your tennis in the back scratch position but it feels really uncomfortable so i dont know if im doing it right. The ball goes over the net but i can never get it into the opposite box. Where is a good place to stand when serving? I'm just confused and i'm stressing about monday. i just need any kind of advice right now on serving especially for a beginner.

Assumming you're right Handed...

Stand sideways with your right foot parallel to the service line and your left foot at a 45 degree angle pointing toward the net post.

Practice throwing a tennis ball into the right court.

Now, take that same motion and hit the ball with it.

A lot of the pros start with their racket on their shoulder now... that is what I'd recommend....Start with your elbow up and your right hand a few inches above your shoulder.

Good Luck, Have fun, and learn from your mistakes.

Do not touch your back with your racket. Everyone has a difficult time with their serve. Stand about a foot from the hash mark on the diagonal from the side you are serving to. (Deuce and Ad) . Start with your racket pointing at the box you are serving to. Your grip should be eastern, Bring your racket down so the top of the frame is almost or is scraping the court, continue until the head points at the beck fence then bring it up and pretend you are making a muscle . When your racket is going up your tossing arm should be going up at the same time, so your arms are going up together like a ballerina. Toss the ball high so that you have time to bend your arm as I said before. When you go to hit the ball you want to be thinking of throwing your racket at the ball. Your follow through should go out towards the box you are serving to. The motion is very similar to pitching without the leg kick. If you can throw you can serve. Go out tomorrow throw five balls then serve five. Keep repeating it that way. If you have the wrong grip do not change it until you can get a lesson in. The grip really comes into play when you are learning to spin the ball. It is key , but it may be to much to handle right now. You have got to practice it. If you do you will succeed. Just get your serve in right now. It is just a gateway to start the point. When you are practicing really think about what you are doing . So when you do one right you have an idea of what you are doing so you can duplicate it. The two things that should be 1 and 1a are again bringing your arms up together and throwing the the racket at the ball. This answer was way to long I know, but I have never written it out . Hopefully you can grab one or two ideas out of this clutter that you were not doing that can help you get to the next level.

ok my tennis pro recently helped me with my serve. Assuming that your playing singles.....you should stand right by the line that seperates the ad and deuce sides. when you serve make shure your toss is high and your are fully exdending your arm. The back scratch position is what you should do and on your second serve dont go for alot just get it in or you will be double faulting like crazy. Good Luck!!!!

what you need to do is keep practicing. before you even hit the ball you need to stretch your hitting arm up to see the highest place you will be able to hit the ball. then you should practice your toss. your first serve toss should be a little to the right of you if you are a righty. then when you have your toss right toss it up when you toss the ball up you should move your feet in together. when you hit the ball make sure that you hit it in the spot that you saw when you reached your arm up. when you hit the ball you need to make sure that you snap your wrist. you should also be into the court buy the time you are don't hitting the ball.

for your second serve you need to throw the ball more over your head. then you hit this ball you need to hit around it. when you hit it you need to start to hit it from the right and brush around to the left. that will give your ball spin. you need to do the same thing, you need to move your feet together when you toss the ball and you need to be inside the court a little buy the time you are done hitting the ball.
