Columbus sailed the ocean blue, in fourteen hundred and ninety two. That's also when he discovered America. Actually the American Indians discovered it back about 12,000 years ago. It became a place for the British to come to escape the horrors of the King. Independence was achieved on July 4, 1776. Take note because there will be a test later.

Columbus first found the Tainos in the Caribbean, not the United States, though he did write of the Mississippi River. if you wanna talk about the continent im not sure exactly what European found it first. there was a Viking settlement in the north as early as the end of the tenth century, documented by aritfacts and writings. they used it as a trade outpost, mostly harvesting wood, which they shipped out to Greenland. this settlement was abandoned in the late 1400s, almost about the time Columbus arrived. the continent is named for Amerigo Vespucci, who was an explorer that sailed the Americas in the same time as Columbus. Columbus is credited for "discovery", which is false, he didnt discover the land first, he was just the first to exploit it.

Christopher Columbus discovered North America in 1492
In 1492, Columbus sailed the ocean blue
But you need to know that Indians were living here when he arrived... so if he discovered North America, you have to think where did the Indians come from.... I don't think he should get all the credit!

we may never know the correct answer. There isn't enough evidence to show this. Could be someone we never heard of or ever will.

There weren't good written documents back then. Someone or a group of explorers could have landed on the west coast, south coast or east coast at all different times without anyone knowing.

Most likely, humans and other animals came here by way of the Bering Straits land bridge and quickly multiplied. Much later, explorers landed here and ran into these people.

People from Asia crossed a land bridge into North America in prehistory and became the Native People who met the Europeans here.

It was Christopher Columbus...they said it was to be the year 1492? Not according to Ruggero Marino, who claims that Columbus actually reached America in 1485.
