I couldn't agree with you more. (I'm not certain about if you mean society evolving in terms of acceptance, or if you're implying that homosexuality is somehow an evolved form of the human specie...I'n not sure that the latter would be very fruitful as an evolutionary pattern, but I do feel that society is VERY SLOWLY evolving towards acceptance of alternative lifestyles.)
Just think that in many states interracial marriage was illegal even 2 generations ago. Alabama just repealed the anti-interracial marriage law in 2000! That seems ludicrous, no? It will be some time before people are shocked to find that a few select states haw an outdated and uninforced ban against gay marriage. But the time will come. Regardless of what the fundamentalists have to say about it. We cannot continue to withhold civil rights from other human beings due to what some nice fable said a few thousand years ago. So, social evolution, here we come.
Good for you, girl. I'm glad you can stand proud.

Marriage is a church-related institution. Churches normally do not believe that same sex couples should be wed. Churches were involved in the writing of laws.
In my opinion, gay people should seek cival unions so that they can have the same rights as married people, only, they shouldn't call it "marrage".
Let us assume that the Constitution really means something. If that is the case, then we are all subject to "equal protection" under the law, gay couples included. So, two Gay people wish to form a legal union in which they share their property, their lives etc.. (just like a marrage).. the Constitution says that they must have the same rights as everyone else.
Rather than allow gay people to be married (which would be government interfearance with religion) the government should make a clause for "cival unions" of which marrage is a legal creature. The government should not recognize marrage, but rather cival unions. That would be fair.
If two people wish to be wed (or be united as gay people would be), the government should turn a blind eye to everything else except the legal document agreed to by both parties. Marrage is a contract.
Homosexuality is partly genetic and partly learned. If the governement legitimizes gay marrage, there will be less pressure against people who "learn" to be gay.. to conform to social norms. There would be more gay people without the sociatial pressures. The government power structure (along with church power structure) requires that the population replace itself to form a starble society.
In any regard, marrage belongs to churches...seek a different name for the contract you seek, then make that contract the same in the eyes of the law to the contract that marrage represents.
Also, your sexuality is not your identity.

Because God wanted it to be a Man & a Women & the Law says it has to be that way. It's Sad but True.If this is your desire then go to the states that allow it.I have alot of gay friends but nope this girl isn't gay.It should be Legel but that won't happen for a very long time not unless someone makes a Promise in the next election on it lol.But the problem with that they make all these promises but once in office they go back on everything they say no joke.Good Luck

Well, people is not evolving. We never did... Yeah, we did not. We just got more weird, stupid and dumb.
In the animal kingdom, human is on the top of the chain. But how come animals like dogs dont do sex with same sex? Does that mean we are dumb enough to understand that having sex with same sex doesn't produce at all? May be dogs understood that if they have sex with same sex they cannot produce one...(or more) Supposedly, the purpose of sex is to reproduce of its kind, and pleasure is just an added bonus.
I hope you can see the scientific view why it is hard for people to legalize same sex marraige. We are not just talking about breaking God's law, but as well as nature's law.

You believe it should be legal. The voters in every state that have been allowed to decide have disagreed. Each voter has a different reason, but the majority decided against it. That's democracy.
In California they have a domestic partners law. Same sex couples get all the legal rights of any other couple. They even made insurance policy change the wording for 'spouse'.
All the rest of us ask is to leave one name, marriage, undefiled.

At 17 you are too young to be thinking about marriage!!
However, I believe marriage is a personal thing between the couple and their deity/ies. The state/country should have no involvement.
