It seems like HP is now becoming the new Kodak. All they do is promote their photography features, printers, ink, cameras......why the sudden shift?

Because their computers are such crap and so is their tech support for them. The whole business has shifted over to Dell who makes much better systems and has real tech support and customer service. HP just cannot compete in the PC business like they used to years ago. So now, they are trying to make a new niche for themselves.

As HP understood their core competency is only that area - Small printers for home and office use.

For all other product range of HP some one elxe is market leader.

So they are concentrating on small color printers.

You guys must be talking about the retail world.

In the Business World, HP is the king of laser printers, they are producing more new and innovative ideas in the scanning and document imaging areas.

Their server products are superior to Dell's and have better support.

Their XW Series Workstations are fast, reliable, solid, and with better support than Dell.

(What is all of this great support talk about Dell anyways, we hear complaints about Dell Support everyday in our offices, we are fixing Dell computers that are still under warrantly because Dell in unreponsive.)

I'd agree in the consumer market Dell is king. But in the business quality and support area, I'd have to go with HP.

Digital photography is a massive market and is rapidly expanding. HP has always been into imaging, however they are focusing on the niche market that is currently the most lucrative.
