Take it from someone who has been watching SNL since the days of Gilda Radnor... it goes through phases. Right now it's definitely in a rut!

when it first started was the only time it was any good in my opinion:
Gilda Radner was the best!!! Especially when she played Roseanne Rosanna-Dana, she also did Ba Ba Wawa, and Emily Litella being interviewed by the the news report.

The actors where:
Chevy Chase (1975-1976)
John Belushi (1975-1979)
Dan Aykroyd (1975-1979)
Gilda Radner (1975-1980)
Garrett Morris (1975-1980)
Jane Curtin (1975-1980)
Laraine Newman (1975-1980)
Bill Murray (1977-1980)
Albert Brooks (1975-1976)
Gary Weis (1976-1977)
Jim Henson's Muppets (1975-1976)

YES! I think it's been going downhill since Mike Myers left actually, but especially these past 5 yrs or so. I watch Mad TV now, but it has it's stupid moments as well and it's just not the same as LIVE. Hopefully they'll get some new talent in eventually. I won't give up on it, it's gone through lulls before.

SNL has hills and valleys. They'll have a few good years and then it'll be the pits for a few years. Right now it's the pits.....but I think it'll get 2or 3 new cast members who will be good and things will change again.

In the last 5 years? I think they've been going down hill for the last 20 at least :-)
