I have worked in retail for many years now. Staples, Lowes, walmart. I have had many mistery shoppers give me good reports, does anyone work as one? Is it worth it?

You have to apply to become a mystery shopper at the websites of these market research companies. They will then contact you if they have any assigmnment in your area. No they are legit. If they are promising you will make a bunch of money and they want you to pay a fee then it is either a scam or they are just selling you access to their data base of companies that hire mystery shoppers which you can find on your own for free. You typically won't make much money as a mystery shopper though. Sometimes you have to pay out of pocket and they reimburse you. Occasionally they may pay a few extra dollars. It is a good way to get some free meals though. I did some mystery shops at Subway. I had to pay out of pocket and they reimbursed me what I spent plus 2 or 3 dollars. I also did some at a steakhouse, but they sent me giftcards ahead of time to pay for my purchase. They didn't pay anything though, I just got a free dinner.

I don't know if the pay is better in some areas, than in others, I think my friend made around twenty dollars.
Whatever your assignment is, you must use your money for the purchases, and then send the company the report they reimburse you along with whatever the pay is, you need a lot of jobs to make it.
one assignment was Jiffy Lube, she had to pay to have her oil changed, and then she was paid a few weeks later.

You get paid to go eat a free meal. Can you beat that?

Well, you also might settle for less competitive jobs like office supplies, hardware stores, and large retail ware houses, but they still pay decently.

I'd only reccomend it as an extra source of income on the side, as well as a few free meals.

It was worth it when I got paid cuz the first shop I did I forgot to keep the receipt so they didn't pay me for that shop, which sucked esp. since i did such a good job on the report.

It's not bad. I did it a few years ago for "pocket" money. You don't really get a living from it, but it isn't hard. Pays for each assignment as you do it, so lots of little paychecks.

Not if you have to pay to work for them.
