Yes. Talk to a bankruptcy lawyer. Congress just made it much harder to file bk, so make sure you use someone who has kept up to date.

Technically, there is no such thing as a medical bankruptcy. However, I say technically, because substantively, you can file a medical bankruptcy by listing all of your debts, reaffirming (entering into a repayment contract) which you choose to keep (have to prove you can pay the debt now) and discharge those you do not choose to keep. This has not changed with the new law. What has changed is that you and your attorney now have to attest that you have the ability to pay a debt. It is also seldom advisable to keep an unsecured debt.

It is always best to contact a qualified bankruptcy attorney. Hope this helps.

SSI/disability is based on your ability to work or not work as the case may be. It has nothing to do with your debt or amounts you owe. So yes you can file. Good luck on your case.

There is no such thing as "medical bankruptcy.". Either you can't pay any of your debts (=bankrupt) or you can pay them, You can' t choose to just ignore doctor's bills.
