It is fine to get a perm because the solution only penetrates the scalp.

Talk to some hairdressers - some won't guarantee a perm for a pregnant woman - has something to do with the chemical change.

No, it isn't OK. My OB said it would be OK to dye my hair after the first trimester, but that chemicals from the perm get into the bloodstream and can be dangerous at any time of the pregnancy.

The only thing thought to be 100 percent safe in pregnancy is vegetable based hair dyes. All other substances, dyes and perms do enter the scalp in small quantities. Also, perms can come out FREAKY when you're pregnant, thanks to hormones. They often frizz or don't hold. Happily, your hair will get thicker as your pregnancy progresses. During pregnancy you don't shed hairs thanks to hormones in the placenta. A simple cut may be all your hair needs to look great.

No, my doc said nothing with chemicals at all. If you really need something just a foil hilight cause the chemicals don't really touch your skin.
Besides- why do you want a perm? That's so 1985! LOL

12 weeks is usually the breaking point for hair dye, but I'm not sure about perms - they're so toxic. If I were you, I wouldn't get one at all while you're pregnant. And no matter what, ask your doc.

It's safe, but actually, the perm most likely won't work, because of chemicals released by your body during pregnancy.

Yes. it's probably OK, but why risk It? You're halfway there. Can't you wait a little longer in case it turns out not to be safe in the long run.
