Hi!
Since 1973 the Brazilian government is making research about ethanol as car fuel.

The Brazilian people uses ethanol since 1975 in two way:

1 – The car is moved only by ethanol.

2 - 20% of ethanol is added to gasoline in Brazil.

Today in Brazil is common a car that the motor is moved by ethanol or gasoline that is called flex-car. You can buy ethanol or gasoline in a gas station here.

I hate when peopl answer questions on subjects they know nothing about.

Ethanol is a mixture of gasoling and alcohol. Some ethenol blends ARE commerdially available, and may cars are engineered to handle them. The so-called flex-fuel cars can burn ordanary gasoline and up to 85% gasoline/alcohol mix.

The advantage of ethenol is two fold. Alcohol burns much cleaner than gasoline, so that cars that can run with some ethanol mixes will pollute less.

The othe advantage is that alcohol can be made from sources other than petroleum. Alcohol can be made from grain products, such as corn and soybeans. The more alcohol we can add to gasoline, the less petroleum we have to dig out of the ground.

Interesting I just saw something on CNN about this. Our "need" for more ethanol could lead to worldwide famine because it could cause a shortage in grain crops. Go on cnn.com and see if you can find anything about it.

There are several sites, just google it and they should come up. Also, Business Week had an article about it just this past week. I know it is becoming one of the hottest things to consider investing in, but be careful, check it out before you drop some cash on it.

It can be made from corn but it can be more effiecently made from trash. This would effectively reduce waste and clean up our environment while replacing oil for fuel needs. Oil would still be needed to make plastic.
