canada has one of the worlds largest copper mines. they still use it in gold and silver but in pennies, they use it like we do just on the outside as they can make it cheaper as the largest producer of copper. it cost us 1.4 cents to make the penny as we buy from canada but with the u.s. dollar index lower, anything out of canada will cost more. the still use it but more of it is used in proof sets.

The Canadian penny still has copper in it although not as much as they once did.
