Trivial: Currently, how many planets are there in our solar system?

It may sound simple, but everyone might not all answer this question with the correct answer.

Given that the scientific community is debating this right now, I'm not sure there is a correct answer--the schools had been teaching 9 planets, including Pluto. Now there is another body outside Pluto's orbit, it is bigger and they are talking 10th planet. However, some are saying it should be included and Pluto excluded so back to 9. The debate going on right now might include the earth's Moon as a planet and I assume if that's the case some of Jupiters moons would also qualify.

My guess is that right now its 9 but it may change.

I'm sure you have in mind the debate over whether Pluto should be included as a planet in our system. I thought I heard somewhere that there is a whole belt of solar bodies exactly like Pluto out there, so if Pluto is a planet, then so are all those other bodies, and then we'd have dozens or hundreds of planets in our solar system. I think as of right now though, there are still nine recognized planets.

They say it could be like 53 at the end of this month since they put a new definition on the word planet. But there are still 9 planets in our solar system as of 8/19/05.
