What makes you think you're better at raising children who will benefit society, than they are? They are looking out for the whole community, we/they don't want emotionally bruised and destroyed children running around, and we also don't want people who think they can do anything they want.

There is a huge difference betw. disciplining a child and outright abusing a child. In general, children have no way of defending themselves, especially when they are still very small. So the government stepped in and outlined in statutes what the definition of abuse is---anything outside that definition is disciplining. For example, as a parent I can give my child a whack as a disciplinary measure, but if that whack leaves a bruise on the body of the child, then it is abuse.
Any kind of discipline has to be reasonable, but what a lot of parents do to their children to discipline them is unreasonable. For example, here in my town, a father recently got convicted of child abuse(and endangerment etc.)because he disciplined his child by putting him in a tub with scolding hot water and that is exactly the kind of thing the government wants to prevent. Unfortunately this "abuse" law got taken a little out of hand, where children turn their parents in for abuse when there was none...but those are rare cases.....in the majority of cases the disciplining of the parents does not violate the abuse statutes of the individual states or federal government.

Because unfortunately some parents don't know the difference between discipline and abuse. I do think they go overboard sometimes though, and breathe down the necks of the wrong people for the wrong reasons. Kids need their asses whipped sometimes... and now that suddenly this is not OK, we've ended up with a generation of spoiled, disrespectful kids whose biggest threat is losing their big screen TV or Playstation. In my day if you stepped out of line, you got your a s s whipped... and I was way more worried about that than losing a day or two outside with friends. Too bad some people cross the line and ruin good old fashioned spanking for the rest of us.

Somebody has to look out for the best interest of the children. What if a parent wants to discipline a child by sticking her hand in a pot of boiling water. Just because the child "belongs" to you does not make them your property to do with as you please.
The government has every right to interject and stand up for the safety and well-being of the child.

Assuming you're talking about discipline with love and not abuse... People complain, but not enough of them are willing to stand up and say they have the right to teach their children right from wrong, even if that means the ocasional smack on the behind. The government "thinks they can" because we the people allow them to do so.

Sometimes it is a good thing . Sometimes it is a bad thing. The problem with the goverment is they take a good idea and get caried away with it. Some childern need protected from abuce. Some childern run wilen because they are abusing there parents. Some need there _ _ _ spanked. Some parents need there _ _ _ spanked. I have seen both ways. The thing is the goverment don't know how to do anything right.

I don't think they have any right to do that but I think i can understand why. I think they are just trying to reduce the chance of child abuse because there are parents who have been known to take it too far when discipline their children.

Sometimes the government over steps there boundaries! BUT sometimes they have every right to. My aunt is a foster parent and many of her kids are abused. If the government didn't step in these kids would never stand a chance.
