It is around 4 - 6 am. This in Indian system is known as Brahma Muhurtham. It is advised to begin or start practising anything u would like at this hours as the brain is said to be at its active best. In fact, a famous Ashram (school) teaching Yoga here begins its classes for men at 5.30am.

But I've always been most awake ~10 a.m.
Coincidentally, (I've been told) most high schools try to schedule math classes for 9 or 10 a.m. because that is the best time of day for most of the population to use the math portion of their brains.

at night. Sometimes oddly enough, I wake up anywhere from 1-5 in the morning and am so alert I can't go back to sleep.

after coffee! actually the hour before u start to feel sleepy, look it up it's true!. If u have a regular bed time then u know when to get the most out of ur brain ;-).

they say usually its early in the morning as soon as we wake up. but guess for each person a different time alertness is at its peak.
