I'm betting that what you are feeling are hiccups. Babies often get hiccups in the womb, and to the pregnant mom, it can feel like minature seizures. Talk to your ob/gyn to be certain... not sure if they can diagnose a seizure disorder in utero or not. Both of my children had the hiccups while I was carrying them, neither was born with a seizure disorder. A seizure is an interuption in the brain waves/connections in the brain. A "glitch", if you will. It can cause several types of seizures, from febrile (fever induced, mostly in young children) to grand mal (the kind you see on TV, with lots of twitching). Usually it is caused by trauma of some kind to the brain (lack of oxygen, blunt force trauma). Chances are that your unborn is fine... just the hiccups.

Babies sometimes feel like they're convulsing if they are crying or hiccuping while in the uterus. I've never heard of seizures being diagnosed until after birth. Newborns also have a startle reflex which looks like a mini-seizure... depending on how close to maturity the fetus is a startle could feel like a seizure to the mother.

Wow I've never heard this one, but is there a specific reason why you think a baby might be having seizures inside the tummy?...Sounds like a question to ask a medical export.

I work with a variety of children, many of whom have daily seizures and none of them were noted in utero. Have you spoken to your OB-I just read an answer to a similar question written by a pediatric neurologist who says there is no data on whether seizures occur in utero and he has no idea what it would even feel like since no one has ever reported one that he knows of.

When I was pregnant I felt my baby 'spasm' alot I was concerned that he was having seizures. I discussed it with my doctor and he told me the baby was fine. After he was born he shook his arms all the time and I realized that that was what I felt! GOOD LUCk

I've never heard of this. But for sure contact your Dr. If the baby is twitching it could just be the hiccups.Baby's get them all the time when in your tummy.

Why would you think the baby is seizing? Something like that should be addressed to your doctor.
