Well I'm writing out an english assigment and need help with this sentence:

"Cherry Valance would have testified in court, against the Socs for drinking way too much alcohol."

I don't like the "Way too much alcohol bit." Is there another word of which I can use in its place?

Get rid of the comma and way

Try this:

"Cherry Valance would have testified in court against the Socs for drinking too much alcohol."

Or:

"Cherry Valance would have testified in court against the Socs for excessive drinking."

Sometimes, adverbs create clutter. If I had the surrounding context, I could provide a better answer.

1) Delete "way" and you will have a proper sentence.

2) "Cherry Valance would have testified in court about the Socs overuse of alcohol."

If I understood exactly what you wanted to say, I could reword it properly.

I think the comma is another thing that is throwing the sentence off..it doesnt seem to be in the right place....like when you read it....the pause(for the comma) is a lil awkward...
maybe...Cherry Valance would have testified in court against the socs for having drank too much alcohol...if i didnt help im sorry....but honestly the comma throws it off. good luck
