I think you really have to be clever to save anything making your own clothes these days. Patterns cost so much, try to get more mileage out of each pattern by buying ones that you can use for several different items.

I make my own shirts, and embroider things. I'm branching out now that I got a sewing machine. My only advice to you is, make sure you measure everything, twice. To avoid mistakes.

finally im not alone
make sure to pay attention to the seams and straps if you are making a bag
pin patterns together with safety pins and try em on BEFORE puttin em together
u dont wanna waste so much time to find it dont fit

Measure twice, cut once.
Make sure you press your seams.
Make sure your seams are strong use a GOOD thread.
I used a cheap thread once and when I bent over the seam in the butt of my pants burst !
