I want to get the kids off of my computer and let them have the old one for just games. I need to restore to factory settings

This is the online order form. It is not free. I don't know how much it will cost since it asks for a specific model number, and I've not had a compaq in years. For what it's worth, if it's more than 80 bucks, get win xp from walmart. It will run on that model. You may need more ram, but beyond that, it will do xp.

Yep. I had to order them from Compaq but they worked they were like ten dollars with shipping I think. Hope this helps! (I just gave the kids my mother's old compaq and had to get the recovery CD's. LOL Funny, huh?

A lot of compaq computers have a hidden partition with the restore files in it. I believe you can access the restore program by hitting f10 when you boot up and see the logo screen.

Gpto the compaq website I lost them for a computer I used to have and I ordered them fron there website

If I may be so bold, I would suggest ditching ME and getting either 2000 or XP.

ME is pure misery.

... otherwise, the other answers about contacting the manufacturer should fix you right up...
