mostly density the thinner it is the more light shines through it ( brighter ) but also angle of light and ground reflections ( storm clouds darken based on the amount of water and they are darker at the bottom because that is where the water vapor is forming into droplets ( or mist )

color of clouds changed due to temprature humidity % and gases which will be submurged in it .
