I gargle with straight peroxide. It seems to give me some relief when I have a really bad sore throat. I take about 4 capfuls of peroxide, gargle, spit, then wait about 5 minutes before rinsing or drinking anything.
You could also gargle with salt water. Take about 4 ounces (1/2 glass) of lukewarm water, mix in 1-2 teaspoons of salt, gargle spit and repeat until all the salt water is gone.
Theres lozenges out there that help with just sore throats, Ricola and Leudens are pretty good at helping out.
Take some Tylenol or Advil (as long as you aren't allergic), lay down, put either a warm towel or a cold towel (whichever feels better) directly on your throat, and relax.
Avoid eating or drinking a lot of acidic or salty foods, like orange juice, potato chips, soda pops can actually irritate sore throats in some cases. Take a vitamin that has vitamin C in it. Actually, if it has vitamin C and E in it, it works better since you need E in order for C to be better absorbed and vice versa.
I hope you feel better soon!

Gargling with warm salt water helps.
Or, I read this on earthclinic.com (never tried it thought):

Penny's Cayenne Pepper Remedy: Penny from Fresno, CA writes, "If it is too late, as in strep, it takes gargling with cayenne in water every fifteen minutes until it goes, and be patient, because it GOES. I haven't had a sore throat take hold in 15 years or more, though many have tried to start up, which also is a way for many illnesses to sprout. I generally will gargle cayenne in water at whatever strength I like and do it as much as I can until I tire of it, and then repeat every fifteen minutes, each time swallowing a tiny bit real slowly (not necessary). It only stings the tongue a little when spitting out, otherwise, no discomfort, you can get used to even the swallowing part when you see how well it works. I use the cheap Mex. stuff, but also keep on hand in refir the pesticide free stuff from health store. Cayenne is a miracle cure for ulcers and so many other conditions, plus aids assimilation of nutrients and vitamins. I will keep cayenne in water in the bathroom in case I get up in the night, so I can gargle once in the night if I am very sick, but if it is in water, it will go bad quickly and needs to be put back in refridge in morning. Afterwards suck on a clove (see below). I have never seen a sore throat that won't succumb to it."

A few suggestions:

Try mixing a tablespoon of local honey (as local as you can get)with a few tablespoons of apple cider vinegar. Dilute with water and drink. It's my mom's old remedy and has always worked for me but its best when you first feel the sore throat comming on.

Eating a raw clove of garlic will also knock out minor colds which can cause a sore throat.

If it's bad - like strep -none of these will work and you should go to the doctor. I've never had a sore throat that wasn't solved by the above unless it was strep.

Getting rid of it? That would require your getting rid of virus that caused it. That takes a few days. Now if you want to relieve your sore throat there are several means. You can buy over the counter stuff to relieve pain. You can garge with warm salt water. Lastly and my favorite. I find that semen sooths sore throat. If you have a husband or BF then I would say give him a BJ. the semen is warm and its salty.

If the soreness is constant, and if you have white pustules in your throat, you may have strep throat which will require a prescription for an anti-biotic from a doctor. Try gargling with salt and warm water for a day or so, but if the soreness continues, please see a doctor.

God Luck!!

I dissolve 3 or 4 Tylenol in warm water, about 1/4 to 1/2 cup. Then gargle with it a few times. Don't swallow it. You don't want to take that much Tylenol at once.
But it works fairly well. Go see your doc as soon as you get a chance, you might have strep throat.

Chew up some aspirins. This usually gives you immediate relief. If the sore throat persist then you need to go the the doc and make sure it is not Strep, as if it is you need to be prescribed antibiotics.

...Strep usually looks like pustules on the tonsils. May want to take a peak before you try the aspirin.

I dont think there is anything I hate more than a sore throat!!! Hope you feel better soon!
If you have not seen your dr, you should if its been more than a few days. If you have and you are just waiting it out..know that it should pass from start date about 4-7 days later....the end is in sight!

Depends on what is causing it. If it is bacterial, salt water gargle is always recommended.. several times a day.The critters suffer from the salt in what is called crenation.. dries them up. If it is something which causes phlegm, and the color is green, get to the doc and get some anti biotics.
