The Detroit are has many very good restaurants. The Whitney, Fishbones, Slows, Astoria (bakery), Cafe Cortina, Al Foccino. I know tons more but many arent known that well like Cafe Cortina. I am a culinary arts student so I know which places in the area are extremely good.

I agree that Detroit has some special restaurants, but few that rise to the level of great.

To all the people that say Xochi's has great food - what planet are you on? Refried beans out of a can. The worst rice. You mistake getting drunk on margaritas with a "great" dining experiance. Its a cool place, but not a great restaurant.

How about the Turkey Grill in New Center. Great fried cacun style turkey.

How about Lafayette Coney Island?

How about Tomatos Apizza (if it is still there?)

How about Beverly Hills Grill

Real Seafood or Zingerman's in Ann Arbor

Nip and Tuck (Huntington Woods) for breakfast special.

But do you think that Detroit restaurants can compare to the best in New York, Vegas, LA, or Miami?

Detroit has great restaurants!! The Rattlesnake Club, Opus One, Andiamo's, Big Fish, Greektown, Sinbads if you like a casual atmostphere and a view of the water. Portofino's downriver is nice - especially in the summer since it's also on the water. There are a TON of great restaurants here!!

Not at all -- it just means that not too many Detroiters are on Yahoo Questions. Detroit has ALOT of good restaurants! And the surrounding suburbs also host many great restaurants.

Perhaps it means that most of the people in Detroit already know where they want to eat. I have only eaten in Detroit once. Some friends took us to Fishbone's.

Are you talking good atmosphere or good food? Try Seldom Blues or Xocimolcos.
