My van only overheats when I turn the air conditioner on. If I keep the air off, the van does not overheat. It is a Pontiac van. Any ideas what it could be.

make sure the cooling fan is running on the radiator if the fan does not come on the car could over heat because of insufficient air flow especially at an idle

It could be your radiator cap! It could also be that your fan is not cooling the engine, but pulling hot air towards the engine and causing it to overheat.

Turning the air on puts an extra burden on the engine. If it's to the point of overheating when the air is on you might wanna get it looked at.
