Personally, I don't. If you're serious about being a writer, you should dedicate your life to it!

A hobby is something you do in your spare time for enjoyment and not for pay. So if you dedicate your life to it, it is no longer just a hobby. Some people are probably perfectly happy keeping it at the hobby level.

I write as a hobby. I don't identify as a writer, though -- just someone who writes in his spare time. I'd like to think that it keeps me well-balanced and relatively pretension-free, and the rest of my life and work informs my writing.

In general, I disapprove of people who try to go and "be a writer." It's much better just to write because you love writing, not because being a writer appeals to you.

I think you're a serious writer who is dedicated to your work so I see what you're saying. However, I disagree because people who have a passion for writing but not the means for publishing need to find other ways to earn money.
Maybe you think they should dedicate their lives to finding means to publishing, but I think that's impractical since people need to feed their families, etc.

Many of us like to write, but aren't willing to make the sacrifices to become a professional writer.
I wrote a weekly column for the newspaper for nine years (as a volunteer). It was satisfying to me to see my words in print and I received many compliments from local readers. That does not mean I'll ever write the Great American Novel or even try to do so.

It really depends, if you are only doing it for fun, yes, its's a Hobby.
If you are writng to sell books, or make $$, then not so much a hobby. If you can do both, I'd say that you have yourself a real fine hobby.

It's not really a hobby for me. I hope to get published someday-as soon as I can finish a story to my satisfaction. Whenever I get impatient, I just remember that it took Tolkien 17 years to finish Lord of the Rings.

I think is more than a hobby, I think is like a life style, write is a beautiful thing where you can express the way you feel, the way you think...

You are perhaps correct. However, do not discount those who write just because they have the urge to do so and never intend to be a professional writer. Such was the case, for example, with Emily Dickinson who wrote because she just loved to do so. It was her dying wish that her sister burn all of her poems. Fortunately, her sister did not do so.

Cheers!!

No, I don't consider writing as a hobby. It's something you were born to do.

Don't be so tough.
Writing can be a hobby.
