At school, at home, everywhere. I'm 13 yr old male, and I have a pretty thick Southern accent. And I enjoy it if I can. It doesn't matter 'cause I'm in Georgia, one of the most redneck states. One friend of mine has an accent too, but we don't see each other much. It's like I don't belong. I try to talk to people, but I always just end up not talking and keeping to myself because they either: (a) don't care about me and don't want to listen, (b) have a completely different personality and thus, not talkable to, or (c) they just don't understand me. I'm different: I'm a redneck, I make things out of duct tape, I like drag racing, I hunt and fish and obssesed with those, but yet for some reason I don't fit in. Maybe it's because although being a redneck, I am the smartest kid in the classes and have never gotten lower than an A on my report card. I also won my county spelling bee last year. I'm really depressed. Can anyone help? Thanks, I guess.

you should not let what others say bother you...one thing you are doing good...count your blessings..if they do not like you for the way you are ignore them...i think you sound like a normal guy to me...i do not know what they are like in georgia but i would not let them bother me...toughen up and let them go..you will find a friend and will learn to like you for who your are.....

well, the worse is yet to come. I'd never want to live through 15 -18 again if I live to be a 100. And I'm a girl, and smart, and felt just the same as you, like no one cared or paid any attention to me. It's a hard time of life, but just keep your chin up. We all have to live through that. Life is as full of ups and downs as there are mountains in the Rockies. Just remember that for every valley, there are two mountains...

Hang in there. You will find people who you can relate to as you get older. Keep doing what you like to do. I am older, and I, also have a hard time finding people who think like me. It is not just an age thing.

Statistics tell us that our society is breeding lonliness. You are certainly not alone. With the internet, we have all boxed ourselves into a corner and the number of friends have decreased for everyone.

Keep looking up, my friend. Stick to your studies, and your outdoors activities. I am a Christian, so I would want to ask you if you believe in Jesus? He can be a great friend in time of need. Ask Him into your heart today. Peace.

You said you're 13 right? You seem like you're at a ripe age for adolescent transition. You may seem uncomfortable in your own skin sometimes, as do many others your age, and sometimes people won't respond to your advances to communicate. Don't lose hope. You sound like you're a likable people person, and you'll find someone or probably several people to welcome you and appreciate your friendship. You sound like someone who'll have some doors opening for you (with your good grades and all). As those doors open you'll probably find new opportunities, and likely some new friends to meet.
