My husband the football coach says" You can try-out as a walk on. You have to pass High School to be able to try out, or at least pass your GED. No, they won't send you to college for playing, but you can always apply for a grant...at any college."

Your best bet is to get in the best physical shape of your life, and if you're really passionate about playing, go to a D-3 or NAIA school (If NAIA even plays football).

You might even want to check in with some of the local teams and check their rosters, and see what positions you'd most likely be trying out for based on size and weight.

If you're fortunate, unless you're an awesome physical specimen, you'll wind up on the taxi squad your first season (basically pretending to be the other team during practice, so those who will play get a chance to run "live" plays against their opponent's offensive and defensive sets). If you show you can take it and learn how to play the game, after your frosh year you might get a chance at some playing time. Good luck.
