IRS sent my ex a letter stating that we owe some more taxes from last year

You are responsible for half of the debt. It was a debt that was incurred while you were still married, hence making it half yours.

Don't Panic
I had a similar situation not to long ago and I filed an Amendment .
This was for the year 1994 when I still married.
I filed joint at the time.
Ending result is nether one of us owed any back taxes.
Go to IRS.Org and check tax laws in your state.
Also get on the Phone with the IRS.

You are only responsible for taxes you owed before you got divorced. If you filed jointly, and got divorced later, you do owe, along with your ex.
