As a parent I see your concern. However there are a few things I would like to point out
. Its up to us parents to Police kids PC use not yahoos
. If yahoo did separate adult and minors how would we know person saying they are 13 year old is not an adult?
My children (all five) are watched 100% during their use of PC in fact PC is in our bedroom! If we want to protect our children it starts at home!

My feeling on this subject is that not all off the immature Questions and answers on here are being asked by people under 18 or 21 years of age.
Secondly, it is VERY easy to fake one's age (and gender and anything else) on the internet.
Thirdly, I have found that there are questions posed here by minors who have serious concerns. They might not be getting the support they need at home, or maybe just need to hear it from someone other that their parents; but I do feel as though I have helped some of the younger members in dealing with issues in their lives.
For example there was a young teenager who had been raped and was in really bad shape that I responded to several times. She emailed me the other day to say thanks, and offered a kind word for some things I'm dealing with right now.
I like that this forum is open and essentially "uncensored" and self-policed. Although I think there is still considerable work to be done for the "Report Abuse" system to work more efficiently.
Also, if there were a way to truly verify age, then I think having "restricted" categories, such as sexuality, would be an good option.

I do feel that minors should be separated from adults. However, because this is an online forum, it is nearly impossible to tell if someone is a minor or an adult. People make up their identities on the Net all the time. Even a credit card verification can be faked by fishing in mommy's purse. It really has to be up to vigilant parents to ensure that their children don't venture where they are not supposed to.

Dnice,
I agree.
But how would they go about it?
I worry too,
especially after some of the innocence
these kids show when they ask and say
'I,m 13 yrs and .....'
I try to answer and tell them not to give
their age or other info, but then, who
am I, the perv police?
Maybe we can put our heads together
and come up with a good, fair
solution.
Stay alert!

Yes, but how would they do that without requiring a credit card for adults? I'm not giving that out, so I wouldn't be using Answers. Along with a lot of people, I think.

No. Then the adults section will be too disgusting and the kids section will have more perverts looking for kids. The Yahoo answers will be really crappy if they do that.

Yes, but the odds are that the kids would just lie about their age and use the adult site anyway.

I think there is a mechanism that exists to help prevent child-related problems. They're called parents. However, spectacular failures are still possible with parents, as they are human too. What a mess this "intelligent" species is.
