What is Preeclampsia?

Preeclampsia is a disorder that occurs only during pregnancy and the postpartum period and affects both the mother and the unborn baby. Affecting at least 5-8% of all pregnancies, it is a rapidly progressive condition characterized by high blood pressure and the presence of protein in the urine. Swelling, sudden weight gain, headaches and changes in vision are important symptoms; however, some women with rapidly advancing disease report few symptoms.

Pretty much eclampsia with out the seizures. Eclampsia can be a deadly condition ascociated with pregnancy if left untreated. Pre-eclampsia is mainly presented with high blood pressure, head aches, blurred vision to name a few of the symptoms. When seizures start it is the classed as eclampsia.

It is caused by elctrolytes in the body getting out of whack because the baby is absorbing nutriants the mother would normally get, simple blood test can help spot and treat it before it happens.

It is where your blood pressure is uncontrolably high and can cause lower blood flow to the baby, it usually doesn't present until you are in the third trimester and can be helped with diet and bed rest. Typically the baby will be delivered early if it gets to bad.
