I'm not white but I love the hell out of Country music. I've heard red neck in numerous songs. Is calling a white person a red neck reserved for only other white folks? Kind of like how black folks seem to reserve the term "******" for their own use of other black folks? Anyone like Redneck Yaght Club?

I am a Northerner an round here we usually use the term Hick. Redneck is more extreme. Back to your question, I'm not sure. Many people do not take offense to it. It can not even compare to the N word. I love country too and I have no problem saying redneck. I think it refers to someone who works hard and is down with their roots. Some people think redneck equals racist. I do not think this is so. I know many a person who define them self as rednecks and are very tolerant people. I do think, like the N word, people may take it differently coming from a white than they do a other races or ethnicity's. And yes....LOVE Redneck Yacht Club! Hey....fellow country lovers...answer my question on Joe Nichols!

I think most rednecks are proud of the term. It actually started out derogatory as a slang for a person who spent their life stooped over in a field and getting the back of their neck badly sunburned. It is now used to describe any person who displays a lack of education or a stubborn attitude to change from what has worked for years and a blind acceptance of authority. I've probably now offended someone.

To me a redneck is a racist white person! Almost like a skin head or a member of the Klu Klux Klan! They are also known as corny and freaks! It;s not derrogatory! THE "N' WORD IS DERROGATORY AND EVIL! I'M BLACK AND I DON'T EVEN SAY IT! If anyone on here is a racist....may you suffer.....!

Of course not. Anyone can call a redneck exactly that. And anyone can call a ni*ger that also and not be a racist. These are words that describe a certain socio-economic level of each group. Mainly, poor, little or no education, probably genetically stupid, lazy, dirty, and so on. Even if some things are now politically incorrect we all know what a redneck or a ni*ger looks like and how they act. Ignoring reality does not make it go away.

yes redneck is generally a negative term. it has been claimed by a lot of country folk as a thing to be proud of just as blacks turned the n-word, and gays say *****.

Personally, I've always like Foxworthy's definition.

A glorious absence of sophistication.

No, it's 2006 not 1940, this is the generation where we practice our american right, freedom of speech.

No, it's not racist. Considering a "redneck" is not a race. It's just prejudiced.
