A bacterial infection would not be cured by taking the yeast infection medicine, and a yeast infection could really flare up if you take bacterial meds. First try the yeast med, if you feel better tomorrow, you're on the right track. If you run a fever, switch to the bacterial meds. Do not take both at the same time, you will give yourself one hell of a yeast infection from the bacterial meds, if you just have yeast. Try eating some non-flavored yogurt. And see you doctor, when you return. Good luck!

Antibiotics for a bacterial infection can actually cause a yeast infection or make a current yeast infection worse. Yeas infections occur because naturally occurring bacteria in the vagina help to keep yeast in check, and when that bacteria is too low the yeast is allowed to grow. So when you take antibiotics sometimes the "good bacteria" is killed too. Sometimes it is hard to tell the difference between the two infections if you haven't had either before, but your safest bet is to treat it as a yeast infection if that is what you feel is what you have. (itching and a thick, white cottage cheese like discharge)

Usually if I have a yeast infection, I am itchy and my discharge looks thicker and clumpy and it smells more like bread or alcohol. If I have a bacterial infection, my discharge is usually thinner with a milky or gray look and it has a foul odor like fish. I'm assuming the cloudiness means bacterial. Does it have a bad odor? I would try the bacterial first. Usually the medicine for a bacterial can cause a yeast infection so you might need that for later.

What are your symptoms? White discharge and lots of itching = yeast infection. Not sure what's involved in a bacterial infection
But anyway, NO do not double medicate unless you speak with a doctor

Yes, I totally agree with Laurie. If you think you might have a yeast infection, DON'T take the bacterial meds which are probably anti-biotics...they will kill the good bacteria (yeast-fighters) in your gut, thereby causing the yeast in your gut to flourish. Everyone has a small amount of yeast living in their guts, but when it outnumbers the good bacteria...that creates the so-called "yeast infection."

There is no replacement for careful medical examination by a medical personnel and the indiscriminate use of antibiotics may lead to bacterial Resistance.
However in your present situation this information may be handy.
Yeast infection is the overgrowth of the fungus candida Albicans and may occur on the Skin, nails, mucous membranes, vagina or the lungs.Symptoms include external and internal genitalia itching and white discharges. Treatment includes anti fungal agents such as Monistat,gyne-lotrium....
Precautions-Stay away from carbohydrates, stop taking antibiotics;oral contraceptives that may lead to infection.Wear cotton underwear avoid nylon. Eat yogurt containing acidophilus cultures daily.
Bacterial infection is caused by bacteria eg. BV.
Treatment is usually with antibiotics eg. metronidazole, clindamycin etc.
In a combine fungo-bacterial infection doctors may chose a controlled administration of both antifungal and antibacterial remedies, but you really shouldn't try it by yourself for the reason of interaction of the medicines and the risk of developing bacterial Resistance.

I definately would not recommend taking both, you could really mess up the balance of good/bad organisms and give yourself a bad infection. You might want to try some natural remedies first, http://yeastinfectionsymptoms.blogspot.com/ has lot's of homemade cures and answers about symptoms of yeast infections and bacterial vaginosis.

Well, I wouldn't reccomend using both unless you talk to a health professional, and know that it is in fact okay, which seems like it is impossible considering you are travelling at the moment, if it is at all possible call your doctor!. If you can maybe add in some details of some of your symptoms, maybe theres one symptom that could relate to one or the other better!. Good Luck
