When crude oil is refined it's a complicated process. It is heated to around 600 degreesF in a tank. The lightest(propane) goes to the top of the tank. It is very flammable. A static spark is all it needs to ignite. In its liquid state it is -37 degrees F. Butane is next. On down the line is gas in varying degrees of octane. On down is kerosene, diesel, then heavier oils and grease. At the bottom is oil tar,the stuff in blacktop highways. At the bottom is paraffin wax where we get candles. LP just means Liquid Propane.
