They are advertising - period. It's advertising to other drivers, possible clients and the public at large. It's tax decuctible, too.

There are 2 reasons to put the names.
1. Branding is no different than seeing Coke on a Coke can or seeing Wonder on a bread wrapper. The truck is our asset that we show customers we are there for them. Name recognition allows us to get more work.
2. We need to put on the door our DOT registration numbers for legal reasons.

they are advertising to all who can read them. if they could get away with it, they will also put in front and at the rear. some also put theirs on top of their truck. it's a one time cash outflow, unlike if you advertise on air or in print. just pure advertising.
