We were just sitting here minding our own business and an Oprah commercial comes on with her talking about teachers having sex with their young students. My daughter is 8. She doesn't need to be exposed to that rich ****'s money making crap. Don't tell me to turn off the TV. I have a right to have it on. She shouldn't have the right to bring this garbage into my living room without my permission. She knows all ages are watching. She's just in it for the money. If she had any kids, I'm sure she would protect them from the likes of her.

You can't keep your child innocent forever. One day, you're little girl will become a young adult and then a woman. I don't think Oprah's in it for the money; she's already a billionaire- none of her family every has to work again. She is simply doing this show to educate us on topics that we may be afraid to talk about or on things we weren't aware of,such as the amount of teachers having inappropriate relationships with their students.Sooner or later, sex is going to come up and you're going to have to talk to her about it, before her friends do and give her false information. I saw the commercial, and yes,its uncomforatble to watch with young children in the room, but I felt that the commercial was tasteful and didn't get into too much detail. When the show comes on, they always warn you about the subject matter - before they continue. If you aren't already, you can use the v-chip to control what your daughter watches, but in real life- there is no chip to censor everything. This was just one time and she may not have completely understood what the commercial was about. I understand your anger, but you can't keep your daughter innocent forever

Oprah didn't put the commercial on, the station did. Why was your kid watching TV in the middle of the day? Have her play outside with the other kids. Then again, she will talk to the kids who are screwing their teachers.

All I have to say is, yes she does have a right to have it on. Parents are the ones repsonsible for what their children are exposed to. Shows like Oprah's typically have commercials on describing what a future episode will be about, and she also previews the topic at the beginning of the show. You're the one who should understand and know what your child is watching, not the television industry. It's your responsibility to raise your child, no one else's.

By having your TV on, you give permission to the station to show you whatever they think will earn them the most money in advertizing time. You have the right to leave it on? Absolutely. You also have the RIGHT to leave your windows open in February, but it doesn't make much sense to do so and then complain about the cold.
TV is mostly trash. Find something constructive to do with your daughter that will instill in her some positive values.

What you first need to realize is that things are going to someday happen to your daughter that you don't want to think about now; the smartest thing you can do is not to smother her trying to "protect" her (she's probably not as innocent as you think, they never are these days and school kids breed knowledge), but rather educate to the right decisions to make when certain situations come up.

Oprah's audience is not geared for 8 year olds...As a parent it is your responsibility, not Oprah's, Leno's, or Letterman's what your kid is watching..If you must watch it, tape it and watch it when your kid's in bed it your so concerned about it...and quit shifting the blame

its a shame people what children to know everything about sex before they have finished being a child. knowing the odds of young girls being pregnant then i think they should also teach them about contreception as well. maybe they should all be given the injection to stop them getting pregnant. until they are 18 or older. when we were at school we were told nothing until we were at senior school. in my school there was only 1 girl who got pregnant at 15. & she was treated as a leper now girls of 11 upward are having babys. its all wrong. my grandchildren who are 7 & 10 know all about sex. we all know they should be taught BUT why so young.

not possible. If you get rid of the tv, other children in her school has TV and she'll learn from them. Best way is talk to her about it when she ask about it as simple as possible. That is what a parent's job is anyway.
