Not making promises is something my husband taught me. I think we want instant gratification so we like to promise people stuff to see how happy it makes them. He taught me that if you want to do something nice for someone, just do it. Don't make offers or promises. Now within your own life, baby steps, baby steps. I think sometimes we feel overwhelmed. So if you will break a project up into small reasonable tasks, we see that it is easily manageable. Now lets say that you hate to clean (who doesn't right?), you don't have to devote your whole weekend to cleaning, set a goal. 'I will clean everything on my desk. I will give myself 40 minutes. I will stop after 40 minutes whether I am done or not. And I will not beat myself up or berate myself because I didn't get as far as I would have liked. Also remember not to compare your insides to someone else's outsides. I had a friend who would clean whenever she got stressed out. Consequently, her house was always immaculate and no one could believe that she had 4 kids under age 5. But I focus more on my relationship with my kids. So I am not the best housekeeper but I reallly am the best mom. That's much more important to me. So remember, if you don't clean as fast or conquer you procrastination, you have a lot of wonderful qualities.

Dicipline. You have already realized the problem and the solution is to dicipline yourself. It is not easy...you must force it. Keep talking to yourself and look toward the future of having not to procrastinate about whatever is it. It's a done deal. A load off your back. Hard yes, just be consistent and the procrastination will lessen and lessen till you realize it is a foolish endeavor.

I don't think there is an easy and quick way of being a procrastinator. You just have to work at it and stop. If there is a way, can you tell me?

Depends of the reason for procrastination. Fear? Laziness? Unable to cope? Difficult task to perform? The best way to end this is to 'just do it'! Nine times out of ten the reason for procrastination was a matter of imagination getting out of control. Don't over think a situation, 'just do it'.

As a lifelong procrastinator with three Ivy League degrees, I say what's wrong with procrastination? It gives me time to do the other stuff that I've procrastinated from earlier.

People tend to put off tasks that are overwhelming or unpleasant. The best way to tackle an overwhelming task is to break it down into smaller tasks. So instead of having to focus on the whole task you can focus on the smaller steps to get there.
If you are putting off the task because it is so unpleasant, think of a reward for yourself after you complete it. Then do the task and reap your reward. It doesn't have to be an expensive reward...just something you enjoy.

The only way to really do something is to do it. Not joking here. I'm a procrastinator and unless I do what I have to do, it doesn't get done.

To do what it is you are procrastinating from. Get it over with and you will feel a sense of accomplishment. Once you get going, it is easier to keep going.
Remember "an object in motion tends to stay in motion".
