I believe you are actually getting to different roots.

Homo meaning "the same" as in "homosexual" or "homogenize"
and
Homo meaning "man" as in homo sapiens "Thinking man"

In latin, Homo means man and Sapien means wise

The word Homosexual was invented by Karl-Maria Kertbeny , no direct or parallel comparison with HOMO SAPIEN,

oh, by the way, Homo Sapien is two words and Homosexual is one

plus HOMO- 's Greek, meaning same, while HOMO is Latin

different roots

It doesn't mean the same thing in both words. In homo sapien, it originates from the latin word for man. In homosexual, it originates from the greeak work for same.

No! Everyone else here is wrong. Here goes: Homo Sapiens (with an 's' on the end) means thinking man (or man who thinks), as opposed to other types of primates such as chimpanzees, Homo Erectus, etc., whereas Homosexual means someone who loves (or has sex with) the same sex rather than with the opposite sex.

The difference is the use of Latin and Greek.

Homosapien is a Latin word, it is Latin for "Thinking Man"...
"Homo" is Latin for "man"
"Sapien" is Latin for "thinking"

Homosexual is a hybrid Latin-Greek word, it means "Of the same sex"...
"Homo" is Greek for "same"
"Sexual" is Latin for ....well, you know what it's for.

Hope that helps.

Walter E. is right on that. Homo- (gr.- 'same') and Hetero- (gr.- 'other') are of Greek origin; the Homo-(latin-"man" or "human") of latin origin. Homo Sapiens Sapiens was the latin name applied to humans of the family Hominidae of primates.

the latin word homo means (self)

Actually homo means same. Same as in "like me, like us."

In most ancient languages, the word for "us" and the word for "person" or "human" is the same. It's the same for us. homo means "same" as in "same as me."

Homo sapiens means "same, smart" As in, "same as me, thinking."

Homosexual means, literally, "same sex," and indicates a person who has sexual attraction to members of the same sex.
