A person is honorable if they act with honor. Honor is a trait attributed to a person by another, what makes one honarable lies in those giving honor. So acting in a way so as always to inspire respect in those around oneself is the definition of honorable. To be honorable you must always treat others with respect and in doing so no one can ever rationally hold you in any regards except that of honor.

A person that follows their own internal morality... is also a rabid idiot, like a serial-killer or whatever megalomaniac you want to add to the list.
You'd be better off looking at cultural norms, and how the person satisfies them, or even sacrifices himself to uphold his society, in the duty-bound way soldiers do.
