In the US, asking for the restroom will get you the information needed. Alternative: men's room or ladies' room which works fine (but is sort of redundant if your gender is obvious!)

If you're on a boat or ship, ask for the "head".

Any of the above will do depending on where you are. In the States the Restroom or bathroom. In Canada the washroom. In the UK the loo or dunny.

Depends what country you're in....

The USA is a "restroom"...or "the can"....haha....the ladies say "the powder room"....

In Europe it's usually the toilet except the "pissoir" if you're French....."loo" if you're British....

Did you know that there is an actual city in England called PISSHOLE? How'd ya like to live there?

I usually ask for the washroom. Of course, that is the typical reference to public sanitary facilities in Canada.

I use "washroom" even in the United States - they almost always understand (except when I'm in Georgia, the Carolinas, Mississippi or Alabama). That way there isn't automatically the inference I've got to relieve myself, but perhaps I simply want to practice my obsessive compulsion to wash my hands.

In America, it's the restroom. In Europe, I found WC to be easily understood.

It depends on whether you are American or not. I'm American, so we use "restroom" and "bathroom". However, my husband is British, so he'd ask for the "toilet".

I usually use the word "bathroom." But I think it is a regional thing; your location probably determines what you say. I'm in the states. Also, those in the military or retired military will probably say latrine.
