first off, how long has the hock/leg been swollen?
is there any sign of a cut that could have become infected?
Do you know how the horses leg came to be swollen - ie: injury, did he knock it or something?

if the injury has JUST HAPPENED - like in the last 24hours, you could try icing it, just get icecubes, (ALOT) and put em in a bucket, and then then add some water, and then douse the horses leg in it for about 15 minutes, twice a day.
You should definately get your vet to give the horse and anti inflammatory, and possibly a course of fenylbute (not sure what you call it in the states).

Oh, is the horse lame on it?

If he isnt, walkin and maybe some light trotting will help the swelling go down, depending on the injury.
Anyway, you should definately get your vet in. Without knowing more details, i cant really help you.

Is the leg hot or cold to the touch?

If you like you can contact me.

Cold hose for 20 minutes, a few times a day. if he's lame, give him a gram (1 tablet or scoop) of bute. Then call the vet. the are many reasons why his leg is swollen--anything from a bug bite to a broken bone.

Cold hose -- 1g Bute -- no riding, handwalk instead. and, once you talk to your vet, wrapping and/or poulticing may be in order.

Happy healling--don't rush it!!

Has he been stable or outside? Standing sometime causes this.
A horse's suspension system is a complicated thing, it could be serious or minor, your vet is the best person to reference this question to.

have a doctor look at him as soon as possible, or risk losing the horse.

He could have been bitten by something. I'd sure call my Vet.
