I take 220 mgs of Effexory EVERY NIGHT. I would like to wean myself off of them---I gained about 40 lbs since I started taking them 6 years ago. I would like to get pregnant next summer, and I heard it isn't healthy for the baby. I have tried to wean myself off the 75mgs, but the side effects were AWFUL. I know I need to, but does anyone have any advice????

You have to wean off this drug very slowly or the side effects can be awful. My doctor weaned me off over a period of a month and I had no side effects and no long term side effects. Please check with your doctor and good luck with getting pregnant.

Talk to your doctor regarding side-effect concerns and the process to stop taking this drug. Your doctor may be able to recommend a way to ease side effects and withdrawal symptoms. They may also be able to offer an alternate medication that is easier to stop taking that will create in your body the same sort of effect that Effexor has. Keep in mind that you are taking this medication for a reason. Are you ready to live with the symptoms that stopping your medication will cause, especially as you face a life-altering decision?

The doctors never tell you how awful the withdrawal from these drugs are. I know from experience. I don't know why you are taking Effexor but don't quit cold turkey. Please talk with your doctor and see what he says. It will take at least six to eight weeks to completely withdraw from this drug.
