THIS is shocking to hear .
I am outraged at this type of abuse in america .
This is exactly what i have warned people about for years .
We need to put an end to this type of nonsense .
We are going to end up in a police state sooner then I imagined .
We need to elect a leader who will roll the clock back to 1850 and review everylaw and every decision that has been made .If the language is not specific andd direct enough to allow no abuse then we need to strike it from our laws .States do not and have not had the ability to violate the constitution and the government has no right to impose restrictions on the states .
THIS kind of intrusion into personel matters is unacceptable and would never of happened in america 40 years ago .
WE are only slowly losing our freedoms so no one notices .

Isn't it a little too early for Christmas?
I'm pretty sure that Customs may inspect any package or envelope entering the USA (International commerse). If so, then yes it was OK.
Perhaps your friend is on a watch list, or you are. Perhaps there is a higher risk from the Philippines. Perhaps it was one of those annoying cards that plays songs and they thought it might contain an explosive trigger. Perhaps it was a random search. All legal.
"Operations were divided into two separate sections - the first of which was the Office of Field Operations (OFO) which handled duties and tax penalties along with helping to prevent contraband from entering the United States. It was primarily made up of Inspectors that served as the "front-line" of Customs by monitoring and policing all international ports of entry into the United States, (land, sea or air); by screening incoming and outgoing international shipments of cargo; as well as inspecting informal entries of dutiable goods by individuals through personal transport or shipment through international postal carriers (government and private)." *

Well, if they were checking to see if there was something "funny" in the card, I don't see the problem. It wasn't like they were reading the greeting or anything.
The Philippines is on the "list" of nations on a watch list. They look at random packages and correspondance from that, and other countries on the list, to make sure everything is on the up and up. They don't want drugs transported into this country that are illegal.
I don't know if I am really all that secure with that happening, but if you have nothing to hide, I would just let it go. You are not going to be able to fight it right now. But if you would like to ask more about it, then I would contact a lawyer that handles such cases.

Hmmm I agree w/ Putt and Murphy, and since they're so secure about small things like a greeting card from the phillipenese, why hadnt BIN LADEN been caught yet? oh yea never mind. Why would Bush car, right? Young men and women are dying over seas to fight "war on terrorism"....so ofcourse its not ok...You should look into suing them or something. Cuz they can protect this damn country by not invading other countries. And leaving everyone alone, that way no one gets hurt.
now plzzz pick me as best answer, lol =)â¥

If it said on the outside "another stupid terrorist using the US Mail to send information about future plots. Regarde vous: bin Laden STILL determined to strike within the Unite States" it was good resource allotcation.
FIVE BILLION DOLLARS PER WEEK down a rabbit hole in Iraq is not money well spent.

I think it was fine, yes. Anything from outside the country (any country) should be at least spot-checked as much as possible or examined. Do you think what you write in an email is private? There is no difference. I prefer to be safer and feel a little violated then the alternative.

Of course it's not "okay". Get used to it. Wait until Bush calls off the election like Nixon wanted to do in 1972.
See the story.

If you were to have opened opened it, and there was some chemical agent in it....maybe something that wouldn't kill you immediately, but you would pass around to your family and friends.....wouldn't you have been happy if someone had checked it? I wouldn't like it...but I sure would have liked it less under that circumstance
