Formula will cause constipation because it's thicker than breastmilk and a baby does have problems digesting it. The iron content has nothing to do with the constipation (per my Dr). I know prune juice and Karo syrup will help but call the Dr before you give your baby anything.

No matter what formula you use, infants get constipated sometimes. Just make sure to put water in a bottle and let your baby drink as often as possible. This will help with constipation. I did this and my son felt a lot better.

Adding "Karo" white corn syrup always prevented my son from being constipated. Depending on your babies weight, first try just a teaspoon into the formula. My son was on Similac and for every bottle I added no more then 1 tablespoon and he was never constipated, gassy or fussy. Make sure the formula is warmed up to normal temp. before adding syrup (this makes it alot easier to dissolve) and shake the bottle up good to mix it!
Good Luck!

my son was on good start and he was doing just fine going to the bathroom all the time. Then I am on WIC so they changed the formula and it is Similac and he has been constipated all the time he goes like once every five days so I started giving him a bottle of juice everyday and now he is going every other day. But I really liked Good Start and my step-daughter was on Emfamil and that was good to but I do not recommend Similac.

My son was constipated all the time until I put him on Lactose Free Similac. Maybe try one of the lactose free formulas. Don't feel bad about not breast feeding from the other persons comment. The breast Nazi's need to back off people who CANT or choose not to breast feed !

Ask your doctor. Don't give your baby water, they don't need water and it can actually hurt them if you give them too much.
That one answer about the breasfeeding was totally rude. I have breastfed all of my children but it's your choice so don't feel bad because you formula feed. I would really ask your doctor about what to do for constipation. Good luck.

Well there isn't any "certain" one that does that but you want to avoid using anything with too much iron in it.. like Enfamil with Iron or Simalac with iron... too much iron is what causes constipation in a baby.
