Fill coolant then start engine and let idle for 10-15 minutes, don't drive but look for leaking. Probably your water pump is leaking which is a sign it needs to be replaced. It won't leak when the engine isn't running so try that. Obviously you have a leak coolant doesn't evaporate. You must be careful about overheating your engine because expensive repairs can follow if not corrected Its cheaper to fix this problem then what happens next from overheating the engine to the point it causes other damage.

If this was my car i would test the radiator cap to see if it held to the psi rating on the cap.if faulty replace it.

I take it your filling the radiator with water cause it leaks often. My concern is that the radiator is plugged up and not allowing the water to cool down. if there is a lot of brown sediment in the radiator and you test it to see that it is plugged replace it.

If you have to take these measures you need to flush out the sediment from the engine block and replace the radiator hoses.

Anytime a engine over heats the thermostat needs to be replaced it may be stuck open or closed either way its bad for your engine.

Hope this helped good luck in your repairs.

I had a Chrysler LeBaron that would do exactly that. The problem was that the radiator was rusted so badly it could no longer cool the engine.
