The more "bad" you are...the more you have to handicap yourself from freedom of movement. Pants around knees prevents you from moving too quickly or looking too intelligent, thus proving that you are the baddest of the bad.

Back in the way back they used to wear these Zoot suites; the old stuff. Anyway when the man would arrest one of the Brothers for whatever they'd take their belts away so they didn't hang themselves in jail. The poor fellow who was incarcerated ended up having to shuffle about with the zoot pants bagged around his knees and shazaam, it began there. Sound like crap I'm sure but it's the truth!

Honestly if they really knew where it really came from they wouldn't do it. I've been working in a prison for the past 21 years and the pants that hung down were from gays letting the other guys know they were ready. Thats the honest truth. I know alot of people will disagree but no matter what they say thats where it came from. I laugh everytime I see it on the street.

I don't know but one time I was in a Las Vegas Casino and this gangster had his pants literally down to his knees and the belt was tied extremely tight to keep the pants from falling down. On top of that he had his shirt tucked in so he looked really funny.

They think its cool, but in the prison system, hanging your pants low tells other inmates you are the property of some other man and hands off. So if you wear your pants low, ask an ex-con to educate you. This information comes from my best friends uncle who is a prison guard. WEAR A BELT!!!

Dragging started in Jail where the inmates didn't have belts to hold up their pants, thus, they dragged. Once they got out of jail (if they did) they didn't bother wearing a belt so, thus they dragged. Pop culture has adopted it as a 'cool' fashion statement, thus gangsters drag.
P.S. I forgot to mention that the reason the inmates didn't get to wear belts is because they could have the possibility to use it as a type of weapon

I think they are too busy doing other things so no time to wear pant and it stays on the knees

That actually started out in prisons as a way to advertise your willingness to recieve the affections of a sugar daddy so you'd be "protected". It somehow became popular in the LA area and soon everyone was doing it.

Because for some reason it feels powerful.
Like how it would feel for a guy that Thinks he's buff to walk around with his shirt off.
Or a female walking around with her boobs hanging out and her G string showing.
Its like a rebellious power, even though evreyone looking is thinking "You look like a damn fool" Thay think its cool.

to me it seems like any group or gang that want to attract the wrong kind of attention always seem to have a fashion that stands out in society. that one i don't get though. why even wear the pants, there just getting in the way. sure hope they don't need to run from the police.
