I recently bought a new pc with a dvd-rw. I also have real player on my computer, i have been downloading audio which I've sucsessfully copied onto cd-r with the same drive. The only videos i can watch are mpeg on WMP which then i can't find the option to burn to dvd. I have tried on nero and that tells me that i have the wrong disc in when i put a blank dvd in. I tried to watch movies on real player it told me I needed quicktime which i downloaded from the link it gave me. Still it don't work. Can anybody point me in the right direction please. Thank you for your time!

You have to convert your downloaded files into DVD format.

You can't just drag and drop files into your playlist, and burn them to DVD. Well, you can, but you won't get a movie that will play in most standard DVD players.

What you need to do is convert the files into DVD format and only when you've done that, can you use nero to burn them onto DVD.

Nero will work best out of all the programs you mentioned, on burning it to DVD.

So, what you need to do is look up "AVI to DVD conversion" or "MPEG to DVD conversion" whatever file you're trying to burn is.

There's plenty of guides out there, and lots of semi-free software to do just this.

I suggest looking first on www.download.com and if you can't find anything there, then through google (or yahoo)

Seems like you have a real problem there. Are you sure it is a DVD writer and not just a DVD player?
I have nero and it works fine for me. You can try a program called Roxio

There is probably a drop down box in nero asking which device you want to use. Right now it probably says cd-r drive, change it to dvd-r drive.
