Thomas Crapper........ yes that's his real name. That's why the toilet is called a crapper and we say "taking a crap". I feel sorry for the Crapper family, because of the association, but that's who invented it.

An ancient Indian civilization invented the flush toilet over 4000 years ago. But the modern version was invented by Sir John Harrington, for Queen Elizabeth I, almost 300 years before Thomas Crapper's company was started.

The concept of the toilet has been around for a long time, romans used toilets. And Thomas Crapper didn't invent the modern day toilet.... he did put a lot of effort into making it more popular though.
