Or is it still basically a theory with too many holes to be true?

Take a look below at all the idiots who think they know me from this question.
The question itself is unbiased and asks both sides from a nutural perspective.
Has it been proven 100% either way for the judgementals out there.

wow. Not sure why everyone reckons you're into creationism just because you ask is the theory of evolution true. I think most people have responded with the alleged "truth" that darwin "is" right. Yet there are more theories of evolution such as Lemarckian and also Rupert Sheldrake's ideas on morphogenic resonance amongst others. So yes evolution is only a theory, or should i say only a few theories. Yet they are attempts at understanding the world through investigation, not blind faith. I'm glad you asked this question, it shows you have a healthy thirst for knowledge and not prepared to accept dogma whether its religious or scientific.

Wow! people still going on about darwin as if he had the only theory. The fact that it is called darwins theory of evolution kind of gives a clue that its only a theory. And as i've stated earlier there are other theories. What is it that makes you people that are 100% sure that its true so sure.? Is it because latest scientific research supports the argument of darwins theory? At one time scientific theory supported the flat earth theory, and the hollow earth theory, and many other things that we now look back on with incredulity. Maybe our understanding of the development of life will be so much different in 100 years time that darwin will actually seem like he must have been mad to even imagine we developed the way he said.... who knows??? really??? A theory by its very nature only constitutes a possibility. It may be a high possibility but it remains a possibility not a fact.

No, it is now and will always be a theory since it involves how life originated and developed on earth. There may be more and more evidence to support the theory and there is observation of changes taking place today, but it is a theory.

It does not have too many holes to be true since it has many observations which support the premise. If you have a "hole" in it that you know about, you should put that out here for debate.

And I don't mean tossing out some jargon about 2nd Law of Thermodynamics when you don't even know anything about Thermodynamics.

In order to really prove anything, it would have to be seen and documented. That said, there is no real proof from either viewpoint. Proving something requires more than finding artifacts and assuming facts using them. If you want to see how true that is, read Motel of the Mysteries by David Macaulay. Artifacts can easily be misinterpreted, and it really boils down to which you'd rather live with- missing records in evolution or hard to believe events in religion. I personally prefer a story without giant holes in it.

And for clarification, this person was referring to the Theory of Evolution where humans developed from apes, not the fact that animals evolve and adapt to survive in their environments.

There is scads of proof... but remember that theories are constantly being tested and we are always finding things we didn't have before.

I know with the bible, it is set in stone, so to speak, and that it will never change. Science, on the other hand, is constantly growing. That's why we have light bulbs, fuel efficient cars and medicine. There's no way for man to know EVERYTHING there is to know about our world, our universe or life.

Just when religious Creationists said there was no link for whales, we found one. There it was, plain as day... it's just that we hadn't found it yet. Just because we haven't found the missing link doesn't mean it's not there.

Evolution has been proven... there is proof. Check with your local university, take some science classes. Do your own research independent of religion and god, just to keep an open mind and explore. You might be fascinated by what you find.

Yes, the world's scientists. To be sure, there are holes in the fossil record -- not surprising, given the nature of fossils -- and we don't know every last mechanism of evolution, but yes, the evidence is overwhelming that it is the basic building block of biology.

To put it in perspective, we know more about how evolution works than about how gravity works, but the church isn't trying to teach "intelligent falling" now, is it? And Newton's laws have been around a heck of a lot longer than Darwin's theories.

The thing about science is that sometimes it takes a long time to find every last bit of experimental evidence to back up scientific theories.

In religion, by contrast, faith is enough, and requires no evidence, so that's why many religious people ridicule science -- because scientists rely on the scientific method instead of "OK, I'll take the Bible's/Koran's/Torah's/Bhagavad Gita's word for it."

How do you "prove" anything...everything in life is how we see it through our eyes. If you want to ask which of the several "theories" there are to how life and humans got here has more support and facts behind it. then I say the theory of evolution is the one that wins. Evolution is taking place around us everyday. I mean how else do you explain something as simple and fun as the slinky...lol

Here are a few BBC website which give both proof and cynicism for the Evolution theory. It appears the majority of the British public do not believe the theory:

Evolution is a C*** theory. Its like that cheese with holes in it. You know the one don't you? Get it st sainsburys. You don't think its made from mammoth's milk do you? That's what I mean, if we find a stone age man serving cheese at sainsburys we would be vexed. Because of monkeys. Cheese eating monkeys, that is. Pleeease go evolve somewhere else and when you are ready come back and rejoin the human race.

Evolution is change and all things in the Universe are changing. This is the basic rule of all things including the living ones. Just look at the night sky and see it.

In the absence of a good alternative theory evolution still rules.
